Unexpected Anchor
I stopped by a flea market this past weekend on search of vintage pins with a little sparkle (one of my favorite past times). Early on in my search, I saw a quaint little anchor pin. I didn’t realize it, but as I walked through the market, there were so many anchors to be found, I just needed to open my eyes. That is a little like sisterhood – always there, but you don’t see it unless you are looking. It is easy to move through post collegiate life without looking for the nurturing the bonds of sisterhood. But, as we know, being a Delta Gamma offers more than just a golden anchor; it offers the promise of friendship, connections and compassionate relationships for a lifetime. So I encourage you to look for Delta Gamma sisterhood and find the bonds that have been shared among sisters since 1873.
A Smashing Brunch with Main Line DGs!
On November 19, Delta Gammas of all backgrounds, chapters and pledge years gathered for brunch at DuJour in Haverford to celebrate sisterhood in the Main Line. Four of the women were chapter sisters from Beta Lambda, who live in the area. (One has a Beta Lambda daughter who’s currently in school, another will be going through Recruitment at Gettysburg this coming Fall!) We offered a warm welcome to Lorraine Graybill, Regional Alumnae Specialist. PhillyDG is looking forward to hosting more events in the Main Line this spring!
PhillyDG at Vision Walk 2011
We had such a great time volunteering at the Vision Walk at Independence Mall on October 21st.
The VisionWalk is the national signature fundraising event of the Foundation Fighting Blindness. Since its inception in the Spring of 2006, the program has raised over $18 million to fund sight-saving research. As promising treatments move into critical human studies, the need for research funding is greater than ever before. The walk in Philadelphia this year welcomed 1,200 people and the Foundation has raised over $190,ooo so far. More information on the Philadelphia walk can be found on the Foundation for Fighting Blindness.
We’ve posted the photos from the event to the PhillyDG flickr stream. Check them out here!
Give me a “D!” Give me a “G!”
We are proud of our cream colored rose roots, but now the collegiate days have passed, our letters might need a refresh from the traditional sorority accessories. I am on the search for DG trinkets that are both in fashion and in style for today’s modern woman. Jen, owner of Exaltation, contacted us about her line of eco friendly and sorority friendly wire jewelry. When I first popped on to her etsy profile, I saw effortless, simple, and pretty pieces that can be worn casually with many styles. I fell in love with this extremely affordable and adorable ring of our cherished Letters. Other finds included a DG Letter necklace and ring.
A little about Jen. She is a wire jewelry designer who specializes in creating conversation starters of all kinds. Her love of language and science strongly influence her designs, as well as a desire to create affordable, environmentally friendly art that expresses her customers’ uniqueness and values. At 21 years old, she has been a self-employed entrepreneur for 3 years and currently resides in Charlottesville, VA.
You can find more of her designs at www.Exaltation.Etsy.Com or on her website at www.ShadesofExaltation.com.
